Cog Hill (Course #4, Dubsdread)
Course Type: Public
Client Course Description
Nationally ranked since it opened in 1964, Course #4 has acquired the nickname, "Dubsdread". A natural style championship golf course, Dubsdread places a demand on shot making by providing tight landing areas combined with heavily bunkered, large undulating greens. From September 2007 to September 2008, renowned golf course architect Rees Jones oversaw a renovation project to update the challenges envisioned in the original design of Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Golfers now face 18 new greens with Sub-Air Systems, redesigned and repositioned sand bunkers, a risk-reward pond on Hole 7, additional tee options, and a 497-yd. par 4 finishing hole featuring a green moved perilously close to the nearby pond.
Designer Notes
Design Role: Complete Redesign 2009
Co-Designer(s): Greg Muirhead
A complete renovation of this long-time PGA Tour venue and current home of the Fed Ex Cup's BMW Championship was completed in 2007-2008. Work included the rebuilding of all greens, tees and sand bunkers, as well as the regrading of some fairways. Additional tees, sand bunkers and a new pond were also created to improve the strategy, playability and challenge of the course.
