Ryder Cup, PGA Championship Heading to Bethpage Black

The Ryder Cup and PGA Championship are heading to Bethpage Black.

The PGA of America announced Tuesday that the PGA Championship will be staged on the Long Island course in 2019 and the 45th Ryder Cup will take place at the public layout in 2024.

"New York is part of the fabric of the history of The PGA of America, from our founding in New York City in 1916, to hosting multiple championships and having four great PGA sections within the state," said PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua. "We are grateful to Governor Cuomo's commitment to hosting these great events at Bethpage and we look forward to working with both local and state officials to add an unforgettable chapter in golf history at Bethpage."

Bethpage Black has previously hosted a pair of U.S. Open championships. Tiger Woods won the first in 2002 and Lucas Glover captured the 2009 title, with Phil Mickelson finishing as the runner-up each time.

In addition to the USGA championships, the PGA Tour's Barclays Championship was held at Bethpage in 2012. The course has also been home to multiple PGA section and New York State Open competitions.

Bethpage Black, about 25 miles from New York City, opened in 1936 and is one of five public courses within the state park property. The Black Course was designed by renowned golf architect A.W. Tillinghast and renovated by Rees Jones in 1997-98.

In 2019, the PGA Championship will be staged at a New York venue for the 13th time, the most for any state. The inaugural PGA Championship was held in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville and the most recent tournament was at Oak Hill outside of Rochester last month.

Oak Hill was also host to the Ryder Cup in 1995.
