Course Opens At Grand Falls Casino And Golf Resort

LARCHWOOD, Iowa - It’s been a two year planning and constructing process, but the golf course at The Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort has finally opened. The long awaited course was designed by well known golf course architect Rees Jones.

“He’s got accolades that far exceed him. He has got a great reputation. He is known as the “Open Doctor,” The Falls golf director Jason Wagamon said.

Jones adds the 18-hole design to his list of more than 170 courses. He has designed or renovated course that have hosted 15 major championships, Ryder Cups, two Walker Cups and one Presidents Cup. Some examples of his most popular courses include Bethpage Black in New York, Hazeltine in Minnesota and Torrey Pines in California.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have done a lot of major championship golf courses. If someone were to just add them up, I have done 12 Open Championships,” Jones said.

The Falls is part of Grand Falls Casino, located just minutes east of Sioux Falls in Larchwood, IA.

The course boasts an affordable links style that not only allows for creative shot making, but also creates some challenges because of its wide open layout.

“I think this landscape is phenomenal. It is really typical of the area. We got a great piece of ground. Every hole is going to be different. The wind is going to come into play with different conditions every day. It is going to be a different challenge every day,” Jones said.

Despite a few obstacles, The Falls provides five different tees for a challenge for every skill set. Hole 18 will likely be the signature hole, it’s a par three with an extensive waterfall that can easily be seen from the clubhouse.
