Course Type: Private Club
Design Role: Complete Redesign 2011
Co-Designer(s): Bryce Swanson
Client Course Description
Ibaraki Country Club is a 36 hole facility and conveniently located near the large city of Osaka. The course consists of the East and West Courses. The East Course designed by David Hood of Scotland at the time of the Club's founding (1923), and was renovated by C.H. Alison from England in 1930, runs through woods. The West Course was designed by Seiichi Inoue in 1960 in response to the advancement in golf technology. The West Course is longer and has double greens to provide the membership with a quality putting surface throughout the golf season. Both golf courses feature a variety of terrain and landscape settings, resulting in both courses being different and enjoyable to the membership. Ibaraki Country Club is currently ranked in Japan's Top 50 Courses.
Designer Notes
A Golf Course Master Plan was developed for the West Course in 2010 that focused on rebuilding the double green complexes to create one green complex. Additional aspects of the plan will address rebuilding the tee complexes to update the course for today's current players and adjusting the yardages to create more variety between the golf holes, rebuilding the landing zones, improving the overall course drainage and new irrigation system. Construction will start in early 2011 and open for limited play later that year.
