Rees Jones To Be Inducted Into The Northern California Golf Association Hall Of Fame February 10th, 2015
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The California Golf Writers & Broadcasters Association has selected the honorees for its annual banquet in 2015, as it again shares the stage with the Northern California Golf Association Hall of Fame ceremonies.
Heading the list for the 56th CGWBA gala Feb. 10 at The Inn At Spanish Bay is legendary PGA club professional Ken Morton Sr., who will be inducted into the California Golf Hall of Fame. Morton, of Haggin Oaks Golf Course, is the visionary of a Sacramento youth golf program that decades later was adopted by The First Tee.
The CGWBA is proud to again be joined at the awards banquet by the NCGA for its annual Hall Of Fame celebration. The NCGA Hall Of Fame Class of 2015 is “all in the family,” as the honorees are golf architects whose imprint on the California golf landscape is remarkable: brothers Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and Rees Jones, along with their father, the late Robert Trent Jones Sr.
The list of those honored by the golf writers and broadcasters includes:
- Mike Watney, Golden State Award: recently retired as golf coach at Fresno State after 35 years, he already is a member of the college golf coaches’ Hall of Fame.
- Phil Wente, the “Good Guy” Award: a fourth-generation wine grower and “first-generation golf course owner” from the Livermore Valley, his support of the game and its many related causes is unparalleled.
- Randy Youngman, Media Distinguished Service Award: a Southern California-based sports reporter and columnist, he has chronicled the game and industry thoroughly the past 30 years.
