Shadow Wood Country Club (North and South Courses)
Course Type: Private
Design Role: Redesign 2017, 2018
Co-Designer(s): Bryce Swanson
Client Course Description
Designed by award winning golf course architect Bob Cupp, the North and South courses at Shadow Wood Country Club present two distinctly challenging golf experiences for their members and guests. The North Courses features mounding, undulating fairways that overlook expansive lakes and scenic nature preserves. The South Course is open and more forgiving, with large landing areas and several distinctive water features. Shadow Wood’s three championship golf courses are each designated as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary.
Designer Notes
Designer is working with the club to review an existing Master Plan for the North Course and to develop a conceptual design development plan for the South Course to help guide the club in making improvements to the golf courses.
In October 2017, we completed a renovation of the North Course at Shadow Wood Country which included a new set of membership tees, increased the size of selected tees, and adjusted the location of others in order to improve options and create variety off the tee. The greens were completely rebuilt, and the new green surfaces were recontoured to add subtle movement and provide for new hole locations. All greenside bunkers were redesigned and rebuilt, and some were removed to create closely mowed chipping areas that add to the shot options that can be played around the greens. Rock walls around the ponds were rebuilt to address playability and to enhance their visual appearance. Fairway bunkers were added, reconstructed, relocated or removed in light of today’s play.
